Here are 8 easy tips to reduce the time spent on ironing so you can use that time on something else.
  1. When drying your clothes in the dryer, pull them out as soon as it stops and hang them straight onto a hanger. This will prevent them from developing too many creases and make them easier to iron.
  2. Place aluminum foil between the item you’re ironing and the ironing board (shiny side up). This reflects the heat of your iron, so you’re effectively ironing both sides at once!
  3. If air drying, hang freshly washed shirts and other hard-to-iron items on hangers while they’re still damp. This will help some creases to relax and make ironing easier.
  4. Instead of trying to navigate around shirt buttons, turn it so that it lies button-side down.
  5. Hang wrinkled clothes in the bathroom while taking a hot shower. The shower’s steam will relax the wrinkles, so ironing will be faster (or not needed at all!).
  6. If you need to smooth out a few pieces of clothing that are only slightly wrinkled, skip the iron altogether and use the dryer! Lightly spritz everything with water and toss them in the dryer. The heat will turn your garment’s water into steam and the creases will fall out! Alternatively, toss a few ice cubes in the dryer with your clothes for the same effect.
  7. Ironing pleats can be a nightmare, so use clips to hold them in place and make the job much easier.
  8. Make your own wrinkle-release spray!

Pour one cup of water, 1 teaspoon of fabric softener, and 1 teaspoon of isopropyl alcohol into an empty spray bottle and shake to combine. Hang the garment on a hanger and spritz it until damp. Gently pull into shape and let dry.
